Obituary

 

 

  Robert C. McBurney, Sr., 98, of Carrollton, KY, died peacefully at his home on Monday, June 13, 2022.

  He was born on June 6, 1924, in Worthville, Carroll County, KY, the son of the late Harry McBurney and Antoinette McCreary “Nettie” McBurney. Robert started his education at the Worthville School attending for eight years, then attending for four years and graduating from Carrollton High School in 1942.  He went on to serve his Country Honorably in the United States Army as a Paratrooper, serving during World War II.  Most recently he was given the opportunity to participate and attend the Honor Flight Bluegrass and fly to Washington D.C. with other surviving Veterans.  Robert later went to work for the Butler Furniture Factory in Carrollton serving as a supervisor and later as manager of the factory.  He was a founding partner of McBurney Homes and Construction Company, where he worked with his son building and remodeling many homes in the Carrollton area.  Robert and his wife started the R.I.F. reading program in Carrollton for children and were founders of the Little League Cheerleaders in Carrollton.

  Some of his proudest moments were the many times he and his wife spent with their close and famous friend, Regis Philbin over the years.  Robert had played parts in the movies “A League Of Their Own” ,“Public Eye” and “Rain Man”.  Robert was an avid Bowler and Horseshoe player and he and his sons always enjoyed there fishing trips to Canada every year.

  He held memberships in the Carrollton Wesleyan Church, the Carrollton Masonic Lodge #134 F. & A.M., the Carrollton American Legion Post #41 and the former V.F.W. in Carrollton.

  Robert will be missed by his wife of fifty-one years, Rebecca Miles McBurney of Carrollton, three sons, Estel Dean (Carol) Miller of Carrollton, KY, William Harrison (Debbie) Crase, II. Of Ghent, KY, and Robert C. (Traci) McBurney of Carrollton, KY, two daughters, Tammy Kay McBurney and her companion, Lonnie, of North Bend, OH, and Hope Antionette (John) McBurney Clark of Independence, KY, a daughter in-law, Susie Crase of Ghent, KY, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Robert Eugene Christopher Crase and Paul Edward McBurney, son-in-law, Lawrence Thornton “Larry” McBurney, brothers, Harry, Homer, Floyd, James, Lawrence, and Ronald Kenneth McBurney, sisters, Loreen Lusby and Shiela McBurney and one great granddaughter.

  Funeral Services will be on Friday, June17, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home with the Rev. Jonathan Haynes and Rev. Chris White officiating the service.  Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the funeral Home.  The Carrollton Masonic Lodge #134 F & A.M. will provide Masonic Services on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the start of the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.  Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Military Honors being presented by the American Legion Post #41 of Carrollton.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Honor Flight Bluegrass @ https://www.honorflightbluegrass.org/sponsorships/ in care of the funeral home.
