Obituary

Jean Audrey Taylor, of Carrollton, Kentucky, passed away on February 7th, 2021 due to complications from COVID. She was 82. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Russell “Dutch” Taylor in 2011.

Audrey was born April 27, 1938 to Harrison & Sarah May Willett in Henry County, Kentucky. As a young child she was raised and loved by Lemuel and Lillie May Clark. She married Dutch and they celebrated 59 years of marriage before his death.  They had one child, Darrell.

Audrey began her working career at the tube factory while helping out on the farm.   She decided on a hairdressing career, but had only gone through the the 8th grade at English school.  She studied and received her GED, then enrolled in the cosmetology school in Madison, where she made straight A’s!  She went on to co-own The Golden Comb Beauty Shop.  After she retired from the beauty shop, many of her clients refused to let anyone else cut their hair. It wasn’t unusual to see Pill sitting under a hair dryer in her kitchen, or the UPS driver getting his hair cut in the laundry room on his lunch break.

Audrey was a charter member of the Family Worship Center in Carrollton and she found one of her many callings as a caregiver. During retirement she couldn’t sit still so she began working at Green Valley Nursing Home. She  cared for Lemuel, Lillie May and MaMa Irene (Dutch’s mom) and countless others.  She never let Lemuel lose his knowledge of the Bible or his sense of humor. She cared for numerous friends and family during their time of need, always putting others first.

Audrey became a grandmother in 1973 and took to it like it was her life’s purpose. However she once whispered in her granddaughter’s ear not to call her Granny but rather Audrey in public so people didn’t think she was so old. She wore many hats as “Granny” (to her grandkids) including but not limited to… Wiffle ball pitcher, master back scratcher, short order cook, chocolate pie and Coca-Cola cake maker, boot and gun putter upper, shotgun shell hider and Oldsmobile co-pilot to a reckless kid learning how to drive down Greens Bottom Road. She always had a pocketbook full of change, a pack of Lifesavers or Virginia Slims in her purse, and a Dalmatian at her feet. Her furniture often seemed to relocate itself and her grandfather clocks were always chiming. She always had a Bible verse or a funny idiom like “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear” for whatever was troubling her grandchildren. She made certain her grandchildren found God and never lost their Faith.

Survivors include her son, Darrell Allen Taylor (Judi) of The Villages, FL; two sisters, Delores Willett and Judy Willett; three grandchildren, Jennifer Nichole Taylor (Steve) of Sanders, KY; Felisity Dara Taylor (Dennis) of Crawfordville, FL; Tholley Clark Taylor (Sarah) of Tallahassee, FL; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Glotzbach (Brittany) of Warsaw, KY; Sgt. Jacob Stewart, USMC; Leo Taylor; Jackson Lee; Waylon Taylor and Clark Taylor, all of Florida; and one great-great- grandchild, Laken Glotzbach.

Audrey was predeceased by brothers Kenny and Harlan Willett.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The Taylor family deeply appreciates the love and care for our mother and grandmother by our extended family and friends in Carroll and Henry Counties. We look forward to remembering our beloved Mom & Granny in spirit. “Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine.”
