William Wheeler

January 20, 1931 — February 7, 2015

William Lester "Billy" Wheeler, age 84, of Carrollton, KY died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Baptist Health Louisville in Louisville, KY. He was born on January 20, 1931 in Ghent, KY, the youngest son of Everett M. and Laura B. Hughes Wheeler. He was a member of the Carrollton Christian Church and a former member of the Ghent Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Billy faithfully served Carroll County through the years in several capacities. He served two terms as County Sheriff, several years as Carrollton Police Chief and over 25 years as Carroll County Circuit Court Clerk from which he retired in 2000 and during his retirement ceremony it was announced that the new building in which he worked was being named in his honor, The William L. Wheeler Hall of Justice. He also served as Chairman of the Carroll County Tobacco Festival Committee, Chairman of the Carroll County Democratic Executive Committee, President of the Carroll County Fair Board and was a member of the American Legion Post #41 in Carrollton, KY. Billy was active in the Kentucky Democratic Party, former President of the Kentucky Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranch and Circuit Clerk's Trust for Life.

Survivors include his daughter, Angie (Ricky) McMahan of Carrollton, KY, a son, Jim (Rhonda) Wheeler of Lawrenceburg, KY, five grandchildren, Christina Ruff, Heather (Travis) All, Lara Wheeler, Hannah McMahan and Evan McMahan, three great grandchildren, Reese All, Cooper All and Madilyn All. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jerrilee Barringer Wheeler on September 7, 2001, three sisters, Mossie D. Kring, Ada Morrow and Minnie "Mooch" Mize, four brothers, Sam B. Wheeler, Wallace M. "Curley" Wheeler, J.W. Wheeler and James Everett Wheeler.

Funeral services were on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Carrollton Christian Church with the Rev. Timothy Polley officiating. Visitation was held 4:00 - 8:00 P.M., Wednesday 02/11/15 at Carrollton Christian Church and 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at the church on Thursday. Interment was in the Moffett Cemetery in Milton, KY with Military Honors by the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post #41.
