Simon Fox, Jr., also known as Junior, passed away on October 24, 2023, with his family by his side at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Kentucky. He was born on February 22, 1938, in Booneville, Owsley County, Kentucky. Throughout his life, Simon had a remarkable career where he dedicated himself to maintenance and upkeep at Camp Kysoc for many years and also farmed for many years.
He was a warm-hearted soul who had a deep affection for children. He always cherished moments spent talking to them and had an undeniable connection with them. His love for children was something that brought him great joy throughout his life.
Outside of his career and interactions with children, Simon had a variety of hobbies and interests that made him who he was. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, finding solace and excitement in the great outdoors. Additionally, Simon took great pleasure in raising his vegetable garden and nurturing it to yield bountiful harvests. He loved dearly working with his John Deere farm equipment.
One of Simon's proudest accomplishments was his expertise in custom bulldozer work. He had a passion for this specialized field and excelled in it with dedication and skill. His commitment to delivering high-quality work was admired by those around him.
Simon Fox Jr. will be dearly missed by all those who knew him best. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Mead Sutherland Fox of Carrollton, KY, to whom he married on December 26, 1959. Their enduring partnership is a testament to the love they shared throughout their days together.
Simon also leaves behind a son, James Simon "Jimmy" (Melissa) Fox of Carrollton, KY; two daughters: Mona G. (Bob) Kindoll and Karen J. (Greg) Davis, both of Carrollton, KY; sisters: Stella Jackson and Wilma Jean Hensley, both of Carrollton, KY; and Loretta Thevenow of Madison, IN.
In addition to his immediate family, Simon is survived by four grandchildren: Makena Mefford of Carrollton, KY; Bethany Riley of Owenton, KY; Jamie Garvey of Cross Plains, IN; and Christopher Simon Fox of Midway, IN. He also leaves behind sixteen great-grandchildren who will carry his memory in their hearts.
Simon was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Fox, Sr., and Dolly Carmack Fox. He was also predeceased by his brothers Delmer, Taylor, and George Fox, and his sisters Mary Lee Smith, Minnie Fox, Gertrude Smith, and Wanda Fox. Two grandchildren, Christie Layne Perkins and Kyle Perkins, have also departed before him.
A visitation will be held in his honor on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home located at 809 Highland Ave in Carrollton, KY. Following the visitation, a funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, KY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
Simon's passing is a loss to all who knew him. His warm and caring nature left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
