Robert C. "Bob" Shelton, 77, of Carrollton, KY, died on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, KY.
He was born on February 22, 1937 in Carrollton, Carroll County, KY, the son of the late James Clyde Shelton and Elizabeth Laura Baker Shelton. He was raised up in the St. John Catholic Church in Carrollton. He graduate from Carrollton High School in 1955, where he played basketball and baseball and served as Student Council President. He attended Eastern Kentucky University and graduated from University of Kentucky Law School. After law school he purchased the Fisher & Broberg Insurance Agency in Carrollton, using his education as collateral to borrow the money to buy the business.
In the 1980's he joined Steve Glauber in the insurance business, forming Glauber & Shelton Insurance Agency, until April of this year.
His work ethic could not be matched. Other business ventures included Rivertown Cleaners, Housing Project Director, Carrollton City Judge and a car dealership owner. Besides these jobs he was active in the community especially with the youth programs, such as Little League Baseball and Jr. Pro Basketball. He had served on the committee to get football back in the school and was President of the Athletic Boosters.
He is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Carol Louden Shelton, a daughter, Sheree (Art) Richter of Carrollton, KY, two sons, Shawn (Jennifer) Shelton and Shannon (Tracy) Shelton, both of Louisville, KY, three sisters, Sister Mary Lynette of Covington, KY, Betty Mott of Louisville, KY, and Sue Beach of Warsaw, KY, a brother, Jimmy Shelton of Mount Dora, FL, his sister in-law, Lila Jo Shelton of Carrollton, KY, seven grandchildren, Evan Robert Richter, Erin (Richard) Sabatini, Will, Maggie & Jack Shelton, Anna Leigh and Jillian Carol Shelton. His best friend, his yellow lab Scout also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donnie Shelton.
In accordance with keeping with his wishes, direct cremation has been chosen with the no immediate services at this time. The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
