Together, for almost 65 years, they built a life rooted in devotion, mutual respect, and unwavering support.
With heavy hearts and loving memories, we announce the passing of Richard Columbus Johnson, who departed this life on July 8, 2026, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. Born on October 12, 1934, in the hills and fields of Carroll County, Kentucky, Richard spent 91 remarkable years dedicated to his family, friends, and the place he called home.
Richard’s long journey began as the beloved son of Boyd and Lucille Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death. In his formative years in Carroll County, Richard’s gentle spirit and abiding kindness became the hallmarks by which he would be known throughout his life.
He was the cherished husband of Linda Carolyn Willis Johnson, whose steadfast love and companionship were his constant joys. Together, for almost 65 years, they built a life rooted in devotion, mutual respect, and unwavering support—a partnership that weathered seasons and celebrated every quiet triumph.
Richard’s greatest pride came from his family. He was a loving father to his daughters, Cindy Ann Johnson and Tina Michaele Butler, and his legacy endures in the lives they have nurtured for the generations that follow. His heart found additional delight in his grandson, Edwin “Thomas” Granger, Jr., who brought him much happiness and pride. He also leaves behind his dear sister Sharon Dillard and his brother Charles Johnson, both of whom shared a lifetime’s worth of sibling camaraderie, stories, and strength.
Richard’s family bonds ran deep. He honored the memory of his late parents, Boyd and Lucille, by perpetuating their kindness and compassion in the world around him. In every role—husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend—Richard exemplified patience, integrity, and generosity.
For all those who wish to pay their respects and celebrate Richard’s treasured life, services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until 12:00 PM at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Kentucky. A funeral service will follow at noon in the same location, where family and friends will gather in gratitude and remembrance. Richard will be laid to rest at Worthville Cemetery in Worthville, Kentucky.
