Richard Reed Clark

Richard Reed Clark, age 99, of Carrollton, KY, formerly of Campbellsburg, KY, passed on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Owenton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Owenton, KY, surrounded by his children.

  He was born on May 17, 1924, in East Bernstadt, KY.  Richard was put on an orphan train and sent to the Kentucky Baptist Children's Home in Louisville, KY, at the age of 2 and half.  It was there that Chester and Clara Clark came to finalize their adoption of an older boy,  Richard at the age of 3 offered an orange to Clara and the rest as they say is history.

  Richard was a longtime member of Cove Hill Baptist Church where he had served as deacon and trustee as well as a song leader.  He also served as moderator of the Whites Run Baptist Association as well as the treasurer.  In the most recent years, he attended Carrollton United Methodist Church.

  He enjoyed his work in the coatings department at the former M & T Chemical Factory in Carrollton, as well as owning several farms in the area.  He had served for 42 years as commissioner for Henry County Water District.

  In his spare time, he enjoyed singing and sharing his beautiful baritone voice.  His greatest joy was his family.

  Richard took great pride in being the oldest World War II. Veteran in Carroll County, KY.  He was proud of his brick marker at the Carroll County Veteran's Memorial at General Butler State Park and Resort.

  In later years he sang with numerus musical groups to share music with the residents of his assisted living center.

  Richard loved to Square Dance with his late wife Dorothy, which they had served as president over the Butler Generals in Carrollton for many years.  He loved to dance and continued in Mesa, Arizona where he wintered for 17 years.

  He is survived by his loving and devoted children, a son, Allen Reed Clark, two daughters, Patricia and her late husband, Edward Taphorn, and Joy and her husband Ronnie Roberts, grandchildren, Bryan Peeno, Heather and her husband, Scott Risch, and Clark and his wife Anna Roberts, six great grandchildren, Hallie, Makenzie, Olivia, Collin, Lacie and Clara.  Other family members, Tina and her husband Mike Ramey and family, Denise and her husband, Eric Jeffries and family, and Jennifer and her husband, Dusty Jones and family.

  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Tilley Clark of 56 years of marriage, and in later years his dear companion Jean Atchinson.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society, the Carrollton United Methodist Church or Cove Hill Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

  Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home with the Rev. Devin Olachea officiating the service.  Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton with Military Honors being presented by the United States Army Funeral Detail Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #41 from Carrollton.
