Sanders

Philip Wayne Ogburn, a loving husband, dedicated father and respected member of the community, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Sanders, Carroll County, Kentucky, on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the age of 78. He was born on August 19, 1945, in Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana to his beloved parents, the late George Philip Ogburn and Lillian Justine Wilson Ogburn.

Philip led a fulfilling life that left an indelible mark on those he encountered. After graduating from Carrollton High School, where he had been a star sports athlete, he embarked on a career as a farmer, cultivating the land with passion and commitment. His deep connection to nature and his tireless work ethic made him a well-known figure in the farming community.

In addition to his work as a farmer, Philip had several notable careers throughout his life. In his younger years, he worked at General Butler and gained valuable experience. He also held positions at Hills Dairy and the Tobacco Warehouse, where his dedication to hard work and excellence earned him respect among his colleagues.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Philip cherished the relationships he formed throughout his life. On March 25, 1989, he married the love of his life, Connie Colleen Burnette Ogburn. Their union was one filled with love and mutual support. Together they built a beautiful family and created countless memories that will be treasured forever.

Philip's passion for agriculture extended beyond farming itself. He showed dairy cattle with pride and joy, demonstrating not only his expertise but also his deep connection to the animals under his care. Additionally, Philip was an active member of Warsaw Baptist Church where he found solace and community. Philip was also a Kentucky Colonel.

While Philip's impact was felt far beyond the boundaries of any single endeavor or organization, some of his proudest accomplishments were found within his roles as a coach and mentor. He generously devoted time to coaching youth basketball and baseball programs where he instilled important values of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship in young athletes.

Philip's caring nature extended beyond the realm of sports - he deeply valued the importance of friendship and kinship. His warm and genuine personality endeared him to all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. To his wife, Connie, he was a pillar of strength and an unwavering source of love. His son, Dustin Ogburn, will forever carry memories of their cherished bond, while his step-children, Christopher Aaron Hughes and Derrick Shane Hughes, will remember him as a loving stepfather who brought joy into their lives. Philip's legacy continues through his two grandchildren who were blessed to know him.

Philip Wayne Ogburn's unexpected passing leaves a void in the lives of his family, friends, and the community he loved so dearly. His memory will be carried forward by those who knew him best - his wife Connie, son Dustin, step-children Christopher and Derrick, as well as countless others whose lives he touched.
