Luther Harris

Luther Owen Harris, 62, of Carrollton, KY., died at 7:35 P.M. on Tuesday evening March 8, 2005 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was the son of Thomas Oscar Harris and Sara Fothergill Harris.

He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture in 1964 where he was also a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

In 1977, Mr. Harris traveled to Brazil as the Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year representing Rotary International. He extended his involvement in the agriculture community by serving on the Soil Conservation Board as well as the FSA Community Committee.

He was an active businessman and community leader of Carrollton and a member of the bank's Loan Committee. He acted as manager and part owner of the 8th Street and Henry County Warehouses, the Big Burley Warehouse and Harris Farms, Inc.

Mr. Harris attended Worthville Baptist Church. He was an outstanding and much loved husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Suter Harris of Carrollton, his mother Sara Fothergill Harris of Frankfort, KY., a son, Owen Heath Harris and his wife Amy of Carrollton, KY., a daughter, Heather Harris Wheatley and her husband Harlen of Frankfort, KY., two brothers, James Thomas Harris of Lexington, KY., and David George Harris of Paris, KY., two grandchildren, Luke and Jett Wheatley of Lexington, KY.

The Rev. Donald P. Kauffman and Rev. Pat Butcher will officiate the service on Saturday.

Arrangements are being handled by the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.
