Lila Jo (Gillock) Shelton, 79, of Carrollton, KY, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at her residence in Carrollton.

She was born on October 22, 1937 in Shelbyville, Shelby County, KY, the daughter of the late Vernon Purdy Gillock and Hazel Bell Booth Gillock. She had last worked as administrative assistant for the Carrollton and Carroll County Tourism Office. She was a former manager at the Holiday Inn in Carrollton. She was a former staff member at the General Butler State Park & Resort in Carrollton and she had served as manager of the former Rivertown Cleaners in Carrollton.

In 1955 she was selected to be the first Miss Carroll County at the County Fair.

She was a member of the St. John Catholic Church and a supporter of Carroll County Animal Support.

She will be missed by two daughters, Deborah Dawn Shelton of Lexington, KY; and Donna Jo (Tom) Szarwark of West Chester, OH; two sons, Michael Scott (Pam) Shelton of Versailles, KY; and James Stacey (Kendall) Shelton of Frankfort, KY; a sister, Ann Shirley Brooks of Frankfort, KY; seven grandchildren, Lindsey McKinney of Lexington, KY; Stephanie Szarwark of San Francisco, CA; Ryan Szarwark of Cincinnati, OH; Leah Shelton of Morehead, KY, Michael Shelton of Lexington, KY; and Grant and Greer Shelton, both of Frankfort, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald J. Shelton on December 9, 1993.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home. Evening Prayers will be on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.


Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. John Catholic Church in Carrollton.


Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.
