LaVerne Ryan

LaVerne Swango Ryan, age 92, died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Baptist Health in Louisville, KY. She was born in Carroll County, KY on October 8, 1923 to Norvin R. and Mary Ruth Walters Swango. LaVerne was a member of the Carrollton Christian Church where she served as a deacon and an elder for many years. She was the Senior Services Coordinator for Carroll and Northern Kentucky Counties with Senior Services of Northern Kentucky for 11 years and was a housewife and homemaker while raising her children. LaVerne enjoyed spending time with her family, being at home, loved her church, geneology and reading, with a special love for poetry. Also, she was appointed by Carroll County Fiscal Court to the Council on Aging for Northern Kentucky Area Development and served for 17 years, served as delegate council member to the Legislative Research Sub-committee for Seniors in Frankfort for 5 years and was a volunteer driver for the Carroll County Medical Transportation for seniors for 10 years.

Survivors include: two daughters; Colleen (James Priest) Ryan of Louisville, KY and Luanne (Kevin) Simmons of Carrollton, KY, three grandchildren; Jamee Ryan Priest Rogers, Mackenzie Ryan Priest and Allie Joanne Simmons, two step-grandchildren; Sara Simmons Freese and Heather Priest Zalewski. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Charles David "Doc" Ryan and three sisters; Norma Swango Reed, Genrose Swango Turner and Joyce Swango Holmes.
