Larry Maxwell

Larry Maxwell, age 78 of Wheatley, KY departed his earthly home on December 15, 2023, with his loved ones at his side. He was born on April 18, 1945, in Worthville, Carroll County, KY, the son of Otha and Ida Frances Walls Maxwell.

Larry graduated from Owen County High School in 1963 and was a member of Dallasburg Baptist Church where he served as a trustee for many years. He was known for his strong work ethic having farmed, worked at Ison Brothers Furniture Factory, Gulf Oil Co., M&T Chemicals and M&M Towing and Recovery. Larry spent 27 years at M&T Chemicals as a chemical operator/supervisor and lastly, 14 years at M&M Towing and Recovery as their bookkeeper, having to unwilling retire due to health concerns.  In his younger years Larry enjoyed playing men’s softball, having played for Mel’s Men’s team and playing, as well as coaching, Dallasburg Baptist Church’s co-ed team.  One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play ball. Larry and his wife Peggy were foster parents to eighteen children over an eight-year period.  He was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel on October 6, 1978, by then Governor Julian Carroll.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 57 years, Peggy J. Arnold Maxwell, two daughters, Lori (Paul Wayne) Ogden of Sanders, KY and Amy (Dave) Williams of Owenton, KY, five grandchildren, Michael Ogden, Mackenzie Smith, Emily Burke, Trevor Williams and Brady Young, nine great grandchildren that he dearly loved, Mason, Weston, Addie, Jaxon, Oakley, Benji, Daniel, Micah and Peyton, along with several cousins.  He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Belle Furnish.
