Joyce Ann (Smith) DuVall, a dedicated educator, and cherished member of her community, passed away on October 24, 2023, at the age of 74. Born on December 13, 1948, in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky, Joyce lived a purposeful life marked by her unwavering dedication to education and service.

Joyce's career was defined by her commitment to shaping young minds and making a positive impact on her students' lives. After obtaining a Master of Education Degree, she embarked on an illustrious teaching journey that lasted until her retirement in 1997. For many years, she served as a schoolteacher at Owen County Middle School. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom as well. She held the esteemed position of Executive Director of Owen County Tourism and also had dedicated her time as a Public Liaison for Gallatin County Tourism. Additionally, Joyce worked as a newspaper reporter and writer for the News Herald in Owenton, KY. Her ability to express herself through the written word left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of reading her work.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Joyce found immense joy in pursuing her hobbies and spending time with loved ones. She possessed an innate ability to capture breathtaking moments through photography and was enamored with birdwatching. Joyce's affinity for animals was evident through her love for cats and dogs, which brought warmth and companionship into her life. Furthermore, family always remained at the forefront of Joyce's heart. Family gatherings were treasured occasions where laughter and love were abundant.

A devoted member of Dallasburg Baptist Church in Wheatley, KY., Joyce found solace in her faith and actively participated in church activities.

Joyce will be remembered as a compassionate woman who touched numerous lives throughout her lifetime. Her dedication to education leaves an enduring legacy that will continue to shape future generations. Her warm personality, coupled with her unwavering kindness, made everyone who knew her feel valued and loved. Joyce had an incredible ability to find beauty in the simplest of moments and imparted this appreciation onto those around her.

Joyce Ann (Smith) DuVall is survived by her loving daughter, Katie (Jamie) Duvall Pryor of Shelbyville, KY. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Carol (Jimmy) Farrar of Sparta, KY, as well as several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Smith and Florence Schwanot Smith, as well as her beloved husband, Gary Dwain DuVall on January 28, 2022.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Dallasburg Baptist Church in Owenton, KY. The service will begin at 6:00 PM with  Bro. Michael David officiating the service. All who knew and loved Joyce are welcome to attend this time of remembrance and celebration.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Dallsburg baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Joyce Ann (Smith) DuVall's legacy will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched throughout her journey. As we reflect upon her life and the immeasurable impact she made on others, let us find solace in knowing that Joyce's spirit will continue to inspire us to embrace kindness, pursue knowledge, and savor life's precious moments.
