John Murrell Walls, of the Carrollton, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on August 1, 1943, in Owenton, Owen County, Kentucky, John dedicated his life to the art of carpentry, leaving an indelible mark in the building construction industry.
Throughout his life, John was not only known for his skilled craftsmanship but also for his passions and interests. He was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman who found joy in camping and gun trading. His enthusiasm for the outdoors was matched only by his commitment to his community and the camaraderie he shared with friends and family alike.
John was a proud member of the Kentucky Corps of Long Riflemen and the National Rifle Association, reflecting his deep appreciation for tradition and heritage. This sense of community extended far beyond his hobbies; it was a fundamental part of who he was.
John leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy. He is survived by his daughter, Jalana Lynn (Ray) Walls Dews of Carrollton, KY; two sons, Jackie Daren Lee (Robyn) Walls of Ghent, KY, and John Murrell (Amanda) Walls, Jr. of Carrollton, KY; as well as a brother, Russell Wayne Walls of Bedford, KY. He was a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren: Katie (Carl) Walters, Keith (Brittany) Dews, Jeremy (Alyssa) Walls, Joslynne Walls, John Murrell (Regina) Walls, III., Kaleb Walls, Isac Walls, and Teague Walls. Additionally, he is survived by six great-grandchildren, Macyn & Jake Walters, Scarlett Walls, Raelyn & Kip Dews, and Khallee Walls.
He has been reunited in death with his beloved parents, Woodrow Wilson Walls and Hallie Belle Lilly Walls; his wife, Betty Pearl O'Neal Walls; his sisters, Betty Sue Walls Perry, Mary Jane Walls Conner, and Olema Walls; and his brother, Harold Clifton Walls.
The Walls family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate John's life. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 1:00 PM, at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, located at 809 Highland Ave, Carrollton, KY. Interment will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.
John Murrell Walls will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his craftsmanship, and the profound love he had for his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
