John N. “J.D.” Dolby, Sr., of Ghent, Kentucky, passed away on September 3, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 78. He was born on March 19, 1948, in Carrollton, Kentucky, and remained connected to the community and way of life that shaped him.
J.D. was known for a long and dedicated career as a truck driver owner and operator, a profession he carried on for more than 50 years. His work reflected perseverance, independence, and a strong sense of responsibility. Outside of work, he enjoyed football and riding motorcycles. In his younger years he found pleasure in camping and working in the yard, simple pursuits that brought him satisfaction and reflected his active spirit. He was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church & Carrollton Masonic Lodge #134 F&A.M., and Avenger Motorcycle Club.
Above all, J.D. will be remembered by those who knew and loved him best. He is survived by his sons, John Dolby, Jr. and his wife Sarah, James “Cricket” Dolby and his wife Patti, and Chris Dolby; and by his daughters, Kayla Hardesty and her husband David, and Tessa Eicher and her husband Leslie. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Brandon, Dustin, Abby, David, Jr., Susie, Braxton, Preston, Piper, Harper, and Cassie, each of whom shared in the legacy of his life. He is also survived by Theresa Partin, his companion, whose presence was an important part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Dolby and Christine Wilson Dolby.
Family and friends will be received for visitation on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave, Carrollton, Kentucky 41008. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with the funeral service beginning there at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Ghent Masonic Cemetery in Ghent, Kentucky.
John N. “J.D.” Dolby, Sr. will be remembered for his years of hard work, his enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures, and the family he leaves to cherish his memory.
