Jean Evelyn Hodges Atchinson, age 100, of Carrollton, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, in Louisville, KY.
She was born on June 21, 1922, in Dayton, Kentucky, to her parents, Clarence and Lillian Bushnell Hughes. After graduating from Newport High School in 1940, she worked as a secretary in a medical practice in Cincinnati, Ohio. After passing the Civil Service Exam, she became a medical secretary at the Army Post in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, where she met Bill, her future husband. In 1943, she married William B. Hodges. They settled in Carrollton, Kentucky where they opened Hodges Jewelry Store in 1948. Here, they started their family and raised their two children, Cheryl, and Daryl. Bill and Jean ran their jewelry store until 1972, when Bill passed away. Jean continued to run the jewelry store for 6 more years. In 1978, she married Dale Atchinson. They lived in Wales for four years as he continued to work as an engineer for Dow Corning. While there, they did extensive traveling throughout Europe. They returned to Carrollton and a built a home on the river where they spent their remaining years together.
Jean was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church, where she was very active and sang in the church choir. She was a 75-year member of the Easter Star. She enjoyed being “on the go” and being with people, especially her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her stepfather and stepbrother, and her husbands, William Hodges in 1972, and Dale Atchinson in 1999. She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Jim) Bogo of Louisville, Kentucky, and Daryl (Jan) Hodges of Greencastle, Indiana, grandchildren, Bryan Bogo, Shelly (Billy) Kaiser, Eric (Amy) Hodges, Alisa (Kent) Whitener and Andrea (Kevin) Clinebelle; great grandchildren, Abby and Lily Bogo, Madison, Bailey and Cody Kaiser, Carina, Laurel, William and Margaret Hodges, Grant and Owen Whitener, Lydia, Melanie and Timothy Clinebelle and dear companion, Richard Clark.
Funeral Services celebrating her life with be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home with the Rev. Devin Olachea officiating the service. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.
