James Douglas "Jim" Fothergill, a distinguished member of the Carrollton community, passed away on April 19, 2024, at the age of 94.in Warsaw, Kentucky. Born on January 20, 1930, in Carrollton, Kentucky, Jim leaves behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered by many.
Jim Fothergill was a man of many talents and accomplishments. Throughout his life, he established himself as a prominent figure in the local business scene as the owner of Fothergill Real Estate and Insurance Company. His dedication and hard work were evident in the success of his business endeavors.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim also served his country with honor. He proudly served in the United States Air Force in Alaska, demonstrating his commitment to serving something greater than himself.
In his leisure time, Jim pursued his passion for photography, capturing moments of high school activities that would be cherished for years to come. He was an active member of various community organizations such as the Carroll County Kiwanis Club the Jaycees and the Carroll County Library Board, leaving a positive impact wherever he went. Jim had served for many years on the Carrollton Planning and Zoning Commission.
Jim's proudest accomplishments included his service as a Judge for only a short two weeks and Magistrate for Carroll County, allowing him the honor of presiding over many weddings over the years. Jim was involved for many years in overseeing the swearing-in of new bank officers at the First National Bank of Carrollton. He played a significant role in various community projects such as planning the Indian Hills Subdivision and helping in bringing Wal-Mart to Carrollton. In recognition of his dedication and contributions, he was rightfully named "Man of the Year" of Northern Kentucky in 2005.
His faith was very important to him, being a longtime member of the Carrollton Christian Church where he had served as Deacon, Elder and,a Choir member for many years.
Among those who preceded Jim in death are his parents, Luther D. Fothergill and Katherine Jett Fothergill, his wife Eleanor Rachel Gash Fothergill, his infant son Bryan Keith Fothergill, brother Joe Fothergill, and his sister Sarah Harris.
Jim is survived by his loving children: Son Douglas M. "Doug" (Debbie) Fothergill of Carrollton, KY, daughter Jamee Rachel Reyes of Lexington, KY; grandchildren Jennifer Logan of Carrollton, KY, Hope Smith and Michael Reyes both from Louisville, KY; great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; along with a host of other family members and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Carrollton Christian Church. Visitation will take place on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the Carrollton Christian Church. Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton. Military Graveside Honors will be presented by the Air Force Honor Team and the Carrollton American Legion Post #41 In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Bluegrass Center For Autism or the Carrollton Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, community service, and entrepreneurial spirit. His impact on those around him will always be felt and cherished.
