Herbert M. "Herbie" Hancock, a beloved figure in the Carrollton community, passed away unexpectedly on October 23, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on June 16, 1948, in Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana, Herbie was a proud member of the Carroll County family and a lifelong learner and servant to his community.  He was also a member of Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Milton, KY.

A graduate of Carroll County High School, Herbie furthered his education at Eastern Kentucky University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. His passion for education extended beyond his own schooling; he imparted knowledge as a substitute teacher in the Carroll County Schools, sharing his love for learning with countless students.

Herbie dedicated a significant portion of his career to public service as a city letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2002 after serving out of the Carrollton Post Office. He also contributed his skills to Rich Ladder Corporation and was notably proud of his service as a fireman for the City of Carrollton Fire Department.

Herbie was known for his warm spirit, always smiling and laughing, which made him a cherished friend and neighbor. His zest for life was evident in his hobbies, particularly his passion for music as an avid Bob Dylan fan. Herbie also enjoyed collecting comic books and exploring his favorite travel destinations, including Chicago, New York, Ft. Meyers, and Greenwich Village.

He is survived by his loving wife, Becky Kaye (Garrett) Hancock, and his sister, Phyllis (Mike) Gruber of Carrollton, KY. Herbie was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Lee (Martin) "Mossie" Hancock.

Herbie's legacy will be remembered by the many lives he touched through his kindness, humor, and dedication to his community. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
