Ellis O'Neal

October 30, 1919 — November 5, 2004

Mr. O'Neal died at his home in Carrollton, Ky Friday evening, November 5, 2004. He was born in Vevay, Indiana to Pink and Mabel Burnham O'Neal.

Mr. O'Neal was a retired farmer and member and deacon of the Ghent Baptist Church. He entered the United States Marine Corps on January 7, 1941, serving his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. O'Neal was stationed at EWA Marine Corps Air Station in Pearl Harbor the day it was attacked by the Japanese. He was active in the Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter #1 of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, a national group established to keep alive the memory of the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Mr. O'Neal served as Kentucky State Chairman of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. A Kentucky Colonel, he was also a lifetime Member of the American Legion. He is also a former Chairman of the Carroll County School Board.

Ellis B. was married to Julia Rivers Jackson O'Neal, who survives him, on October 22, 1947. Also surviving is a daughter, Karen Boswell of Carrollton, KY, two sons, Walton J. O'Neal of Raleigh, North Carolina and Ricky O'Neal of Carrollton, KY, and five grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walton O. O'Neal.

The Rev. Michael Galdamez, Pastor of Ghent Baptist Church will officiate the service. Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association will conduct a ceremony at the funeral home on Monday evening.

Expressions of sympathy make take the form of gifts to Ghent Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
