David Ross Matson

David Ross Matson born on November 1, 1944, to Russell Henry Matson and Audrey Lillian Combs Matson of Toronto, Canada, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the age of 78 with pancreatic cancer at his home in Campbellsburg, KY.  He graduated from Provincial Institute of Trades and from the Brown Technical College before working in his local union #46 in Canada for several years. After marriage to Katie Matson, David worked as a pipefitter in local #136 and later #392 for 13 years followed by 24 years of employment at Dow Corning in Carrollton, Ky.  After retirement he continued to plumb commercial/residential until too ill to continue.  

He is survived by his wife, Katie Smith Matson, and his five children: Joshua David (Jennifer) Matson, Justin Lee (Adrienne) Matson, Janna Matson (Jonathan) Stokes, Jacob Samuel Matson and Amanda Matson; eleven grandchildren: Haley Elisabeth Matson, Camden Bryce Matson, Seth David Matson, Audrey Noelle Matson, Joel Benjamin Matson, Luke Daniel Matson, Braxton Graham Stokes, Brielle Kathryn  Stokes, Stephanie Giles, Amber Matson & Bradley Matson; two great grandchildren: Ariel Matson and Leo Matson; four brothers: Rick Howard (Evelyn) Matson, Grant Russell (Jodi) Matson, Rae Gordon Matson and Keith Allen Matson; brother-in-law: James Smith; sisters-in-law: Virginia McNamee, Janet Smith, Diane Smith, Brenda Smith and Kathy Smith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was predeceased by his grandson, Andrew Joshua Matson of Ohio; his parents, Russell & Audrey Matson; and brother, Ken Matson, from Toronto, Canada.

David enjoyed working with his cows on the farm, motorcycle riding with the “Old Coots on Scoots”, watching hummingbirds on his porch, listening to country and Christian music, favorite being Gordon Lightfoot; working plumbing jobs on the side and spending time with his family.  He attended Valley Christian Church for 32 years and LaGrange Baptist Church for the last eight years.
