David Ryan Hoskins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, at his home in Carrollton, Carroll County, Kentucky, at the age of 85. Born on November 7, 1939, at his parents' home in English, Carroll County, Kentucky, David lived a life filled with purpose, dedication, and love for his family.
David honorably served his country in the United States Army, exemplifying the values of duty and loyalty that would follow him throughout his life. He had worked diligently in various occupations, including a position at M & T Chemical Company in Carrollton, and later as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the former Bristol Steel and also Nugent Sand and Gravel Company. In his younger days, he worked alongside his family to raise tobacco
His hobbies brought him joy and fulfillment; he loved to take his bird dogs out to hunt quail, which encapsulated his adventurous spirit. David also had a passion for restoring hot rod cars and attending car shows and demolition derbies. He found immense pleasure in sharing his knowledge and experiences, teaching his children valuable life skills with great enthusiasm. He had considered Ghent Baptist Church as his home church.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Adams Hoskins, whom he married on October 30, 1959. He is also survived by his two sons, Donald Wayne Hoskins of Lawrenceburg, KY, and Christopher David Hoskins of Carrollton, KY, along with his daughter, Lisa Diane (Forrest) Poland of Ghent, KY. A cherished sister, Martha Jane Reynolds of Carrollton, KY, also remains among his surviving family members. David's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Jami Rae (Brad) Beach, Dana (Josh) New, Sara Jane Gammons, Rachael (Casey) Cable, Jonathan Hoskins, and Abby (Cam) Watson, as well as his great-grandchildren, Kira, Kyrstin, Landon, Lani, Krew, Kennedy, Ally, Chloe, Easton, Durham, and Beau.
David was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas "Todd" Hoskins and Lucy Elizabeth Wilson Hoskins, and a great-grandson, Bryce David Robert Stewart. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Sue Thomas, Tommie Skirvin, and Joyce Ann Sanders, as well as his brothers, Jimmy and Donnie Hoskins, who died at the tender age of four.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, located at 809 Highland Ave, Carrollton, KY 41008. Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial gifts to be given to the "Be Like Bryce Memorial Fund", his great-grandson, who died tragically on August 13, 2023. Please send memorial gifts in care of the funeral home.
David Ryan Hoskins will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on through the love and lessons he shared with his family and friends.
