Darwin Thomas, III

John Thomas, (Darwin Johnson “John” Thomas, III) 70, of Ghent, KY, died on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at his home in Ghent, KY.

He was born on December 24, 1947 in Shelby County, KY, the son of the late Darwin Johnson Thomas, Jr. and Anna Marie Donovan Thomas of Taylorsville, KY.  He had served his Country during the Vietnam Era in the United States Army from 1969-1971, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.  He later went on to work in the public education for most his life, having most recently served as Superintendent of North Harrison, IN, School System.  He had previously worked for the Switzerland County School Corporation in Vevay, IN, serving as the Principal and Superintendent,  the Cannelton City Schools in Cannelton, IN, the Pike County Schools in Petersburg, IN, and the North Harrison Community Schools in Ramsey, IN.  He was a member of the Ghent Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Scott Thomas of Ghent, KY, his mother, Anna Marie Donovan Thomas of Taylorsville, KY, a son, John Ashley Thomas of Taylor Mill, KY, two daughters, Leah Michelle Thomas of Petersburg, VA, and Elizabeth Marie Thomas of Lexington, KY, a brother, Ronald Thomas of Taylorsville, KY, two sisters, Sandy Jewell and Penny Edwards, both of Taylorsville, KY, four grandchildren, Olivia Thomas of Florence, KY, Sarah Ferguson of Lexington, KY, Mary Wilson and Paul Wilson, both of Lexington, KY.

He was preceded in death by his father.
