Betty Johnson Wood, age 85, passed away on May 14, 2025, in Carrollton, Kentucky. Born on March 20, 1940, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, Betty was the cherished daughter of Charlie and Ruby Martin Jenkins, who had preceded her in death.
Betty had a successful career as an Administrative Assistant at Univac in Bristol, Tennessee, and she also made significant contributions in the field of Property Management. Her professional life reflected her dedication and commitment to excellence, traits that defined her character both in and out of the workplace.
Beyond her career, Betty had a wealth of interests and hobbies that brought joy to her life. She loved playing the piano and enjoyed sports, having been a basketball star during her high school years in Pennington Gap. She was also an avid tennis player and a formidable opponent at bingo, proving time and again her competitive spirit. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed attending Relevant Church, The Refuge, and finally, in the nursing home, she enjoyed the young men and ladies ministering to the residents. She never wanted to miss! What a blessing!
Betty is survived by her two beloved daughters, Kimberlee Johnson (Paul) Yocum of Bedford, Kentucky, and Kelli L. Johnson (Michael) Savage of Evans, Georgia. She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Clint Yocum, Jordan Yocum, Cameron Young, and Sean McCarthy, and a doting great-grandmother to her seven great-grandchildren, Colson Yocum, Carson Yocum, Logan Moir, Audrey Yocum, Landon Yocum, Izabella Young, and Ryleigh Murphy, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, William H. Johnson, Jr. and Donald C. Wood, as well as her brothers, Charles and Wayne Jenkins. Her family and friends will remember her for her spirited personality, her passion for life, and her unwavering love for those she held dear.
Visitation will be held at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Kentucky, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM. Betty Johnson Wood leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories that will forever resonate with her family and friends.
