Bessie Sheets

Bessie Nell Sheets, age 100, of Milton, KY, died on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, IN.

She was born on July 8, 1914 in Carroll County, KY, the daughter of the late Charles D. Mills and Daisy G. Taylor Mills. She was a 1932 graduate of Carrollton High School and would have gone to College, but times were tough back then during the Great Depression and it was a struggle to make ends meet. Bessie was proud to be on the first Woman's Softball Teams back in 1934 and 1935 in Frankfort, KY. Bessie went on to marry Warren Sheets, though she never served in the Military, she was proud to stand by her husband as a Military Wife during World War II. Later in life she worked for the Kuhns Corporation five and dime in Tennessee as a Bookkeeper and Accountant, she resided in Tennessee for several years until moving back to Kentucky over the last few years. She was a Breast Cancer Survivor since 1999.

Her memberships include the Hopewell Church in Carroll County, KY, and the Bartlett United Methodist Church in Bartlett, TN. She was also a member of the American Legion Woman's Auxiliary in Nashville and Memphis, TN.

She will be missed by her son, Donald L. Sheets of Milton, KY, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Several Cousins, Nieces and Nephews throughout the area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Warren Sheets, who died on December 10, 1964. She is also preceded in death by her four sisters, Cathlene Brown, Georgia Garrett, Hazel Harmon and Grace Harmon.

Memorial Services were 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Hopewell Community Church with the Rev. Jim Stewart officiating the service. Cremation was chosen by the family.

The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
