Barbara Jean Stethen

Barbara Jean Stethen, born on February 23, 1942, in Sparta, Gallatin County, Kentucky, gracefully departed this life on June 23, 2025, in Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana. A devoted homemaker, Barbara dedicated herself to her family and also played a vital role in maintaining the family farm. She was known for her unwavering spirit and cheerfulness, embodying the essence of love and care that her family cherished. She had attended Bedford Baptist Church,

She grew up in Sparta, tenant farming with her family. She loved working in the fields with her family and enjoyed school and social activities.  She was a majorette & cheerleader in high school.

After getting married and having her two children, her husband took a job that required travel.  They moved thirteen times over twenty years and lived in fourteen different states.  She was always involved in the Welcome Wagon & P.T.A. and always stayed involved in the new communities to help her children adapt to new settings.

After 30 years of traveling her and Tom moved to their farm in Carrollton.

Barbara held a special passion for the University of Kentucky, proudly supporting the team as an avid fan. She found joy in many activities, including bowling, golfing, shopping, and nurturing her garden. Her green thumb allowed her to keep the weeds at bay, resulting in a vibrant garden that was the pride of her home. Moreover, Barbara was known for her culinary skills, delighting loved ones with meals prepared from the heart.

Barbara's life is celebrated by her loving family, which includes her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Angela Stethen of Bedford, KY, her sister, Pat Stakis of Columbia, SC, and her beloved grandchildren: Mathew Stethen, Dylan Stethen, Kelly Green, and Ashley Rokohl.  Great grandchildren, Emberly and Aubrey Stethen, Desiray Stafford, Michael Carter, Ashtin Stafford, Anthony Amason, and Alexus Golden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Hazel Mae Bickers Jones, her husband, Harold Thomas "Tom" Stethen; and her daughter, Deborah Stethen.

Barbara's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will forever be remembered, echoing in the hearts of those she has touched.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home located at 809 Highland Ave, Carrollton, KY 41008. This will be followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 P.M. Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.
