Barbara Jean Long, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, in La Grange, Oldham County, Kentucky, at the age of 78. Born on October 17, 1947, in Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana, Barbara’s life was shaped by deep faith, compassion, and devotion to her family and community.
Barbara spent her career as a Radiology Technician in Nuclear Medicine at King's Daughters Hospital in Madison, Indiana. She cherished her role as an ultrasound technician, taking great pride in her work and forming meaningful connections with her patients. The care, empathy, and joy she brought to her daily responsibilities left a lasting impression on all those she encountered.
A woman of profound Christian faith, Barbara was a dedicated member of English Christian Church. Her faith guided her actions and inspired those around her. In her younger years, she enjoyed the artistry of needlepoint, pouring patience and creativity into her pieces. Barbara also found great joy in cooking—her family and friends often delighted in her fantastic meals, made with love and skill.
Barbara's nurturing spirit flourished in the company of her beloved grandchildren. She relished the time spent with Amanda Marie, Grace Elizabeth, Jacob Michael, and Zephie Anne, creating memories marked by warmth and affection. She cared deeply for animals and delighted especially in watching birds, with a particular fondness for hummingbirds.
She is survived by her devoted husband, M.G. Long; her sons, Michael Long and Matt Long (along with his wife, Cara); daughter-in-law Michele Long; and her cherished grandchildren, Grace Elizabeth Long, Jacob Michael Long, and Zephie Anne Long.
Barbara is reunited in eternal rest with her father, John Gray; her mother, Norma Evelyn Vestal Singo; her step-father, James Singo; her sister, Deanna Maddox; her granddaughter, Amanda Long; and her grandparents, Hoyt Vestal and Nellie Vestal. Their memories will continue to be cherished by all whose lives they touched.
Family and friends are invited to honor Barbara's life at the visitation on June 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave, Carrollton, KY. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 1:00 p.m. Barbara will be laid to rest at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 N Gate Rd, Madison, IN, on June 30, 2026.
Barbara Jean Long will be remembered for her compassionate spirit, steadfast faith, unwavering love for her family, and the kindness she showed to all. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
