  Albert Gallatin Craig Jr. died peacefully at Fairview Assisted Living in Carrollton, July 11th, 2018. He was 96. He was born February 13, 1922 in Gallatin County, the son of Jennie Lee Hance and Albert Gallatin Craig. He was raised in the historic Craig home on the Gallatin/Carroll County line. He attended the 1 room, Gex School and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1940.

  He was in an Engineering program at the University of Kentucky when WWII broke out. He was an Army Veteran, 75th Infantry, 209th Regiment, serving in Company G and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, seeing his first action on Christmas Day, 1944. Albert was wounded outside of Dortmund, Germany and discharged.

  He married Sylvia Mercier, on June 21, 1947 in New York City. They moved to Washington, D. C., where Albert worked as an examiner with the U.S. Patent Office. While there he earned a Law Degree from George Washington University. Upon his retirement in 1977 they moved to Versailles, Kentucky, then later to Burlington where Sylvia died in 2003.

  He was the subject of a long profile in the May 11, 2017 issue of the New Democrat. He was proud of his family history, being a descendant of the Craigs who pioneered this area of Carroll County. He was always active with a Disciples of Christ Church, as well as the Lions Club and the American Legion.

  He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Craig Semones of Burlington, KY,  and two grandchildren, Kyle Semones and Hope Semones, both of Burlington, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William L. Craig and sister Alice Inda Craig Davis.

  Military Honors will be presented at the graveside by the Carrollton American Legion Post #41.
