Donald W. “Don” Garner, 75, of Louisville, KY, formerly of Carrollton, KY, died on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Jewish Hospital Hosparus Unit in Louisville, KY.

He was born on May 25, 1941 in Pulaski County, KY, the son of the late Thomas Hunter Garner and Della Rainwater Garner.  He was a retired Principal of the Carroll County Vocational School in Carrollton.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons and the Chairman of the Budget Committee.  He had previously served on the Carroll County Memorial Hospital Board and the West Carroll Water District.  He was a former member of the Carroll County Jaycees.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Colyer Garner of Louisville, KY, three daughters, Melodie (Greg) Conway of Prospect, KY, Angela Hoskins of Louisville, KY, and Christi (Roger) Unker of La Grange, KY.  Other survivors include his two brothers, Gary and Ray Garner, both of Nancy, KY, a sister, Sue Sims of Nashville, TN, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Amanda Long.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton with the Rev. Dr. Chris White officiating the service.  Visitation will be on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.  Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s Foundation directed for the Outpatient Pulmonary Gym or the Don Garner Scholarship Fund at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton in care of the funeral home.

Arrangements are entrusted with the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.
